Discover Aboriginal culture on your doorstep
Just a 15 minute walk, or 2 minute drive away from the BIG4 Racecourse Tourist Park is the Murramarang Aboriginal Area walking track, which is one of the largest and most important Aboriginal sites on the NSW coast. North of the headland is a lagoon which, according to Dreamtime beliefs, is home to a serpent that was involved in the creation of the land. This is a great way for the whole family to discover Aboriginal culture and history, right on your doorstep.
An easy 2.2km walking track passes the hectares of middens and many other Aboriginal sites and features panoramic views. A Grade 3 walk with a distance of 2.2km in a loop, the time suggested is 1 hr to 1hr 30 min. It has only gentle slopes, so no experience is necessary.
A 30 minute drive north near Ulladulla is the 2km “One Track For All” which tells the story of southern Shoalhaven Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal history, from an Aboriginal perspective, complete with relief carvings and paintings.
This unique heritage track is suitable for assisted wheelchair, pram and bicycle access.
